In the afternoon of April 21, 2022, President Yang Dan and Vice President Yao Faming led a delegation to investigate and guide the work of the School of Physical Science and Technology. The entire party and government leadership team and teacher representatives of the School of Physical Science and Technology attended the meeting. The Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Physics, Liu Yu, chaired the meeting. Professor Jia Huanyu, the Vice Dean of the School of Physics who is responsible for its work, reported on the basic situation of the school and its key work.

Jia stated that since physics was authorized to grant Ph.D.s in 2016, the school has strengthened its internal construction and has achieved significant development in supporting conditions such as discipline hierarchy, academic research, and graduate student education, which have formed the school's own discipline advantages and characteristics. The school has made great efforts to promote the comprehensive development of ideological and political education, explore "Three-Integration" work models based on professional teams, continuously promote scientific research and innovation work, establish accounts for research teams, and develop and improve the planning and classification assessment mechanisms for the development of research teams, achieving a series of results. The school will continue to deepen comprehensive reforms, focus on the direction of discipline construction, adhere to the development of advantageous characteristics, and contribute to the construction of "Double First-Class" universities.

The heads of the discipline, Professor Xu Yuhong and Professor Liu Siming, expressed gratitude for the support and assistance provided by the university and reported on how the team would support the development of the discipline in the next step. The deputy deans and young teachers respectively expressed their views on issues such as discipline construction, teacher team construction, and the growth of young teachers.

Wang Ping, Dean of the Institute of Science and Technology Development and Director Qiu Yanjun of the Discipline Department, Yan Qixiang, head of the Talent Office, respectively conducted exchanges on the development of the discipline and the construction of scientific research platforms and talent cultivation. Zhou Xianli, Executive Vice Dean of the Graduate School, and Cui Kai, Director of the Academic Affairs Office, respectively conducted exchanges on graduate and undergraduate education and teaching. Vice President Yao Faming pointed out that the university had always cared about the construction and development of the School of Physics, and also provided corresponding support. The school will continue to provide more support for the work of the School of Physics and encourage it to do well in its advantageous areas. President Yang Dan made several suggestions for the School of Physics in his summary speech.

Firstly, the school should seriously consider the "14th Five-Year Plan" and use a "sky-reaching and ground-based" approach to carry out its work. On the one hand, it should focus on international frontiers and major national needs, strive to make breakthroughs in basic research and applied grassroots research, and achieve "sky-reaching"; on the other hand, it should provide basic support for engineering disciplines and achieve "ground-based" work. The school should work well in the following aspects: Firstly, it should strengthen its foundation, improve the quality of talent training from the actual development laws of physics subjects; secondly, it should enter into mainstream development and develop mainstream characteristic subjects recognized by the academic community; thirdly, it should strengthen its interdisciplinary cooperation with Engineering College, deepening cross-disciplinary development and integration with other subjects. Return to the construction of "Double First-Class", orient to national needs and serve national strategies in order to resolve short comings; Fourthly, it should cultivate talent, analyze the situation of the teacher team deeply, actively seek out talents without lowering talent standards, and attract and cultivate high-level talents based on high-level achievements. Meanwhile, it should build a high-level work platform; and finally, it should establish characteristics and consolidate the foundation of the school's science, providing strong support for the construction of "Double First-Class" universities.

Finally, Yang Dan expressed confidence in the development of the School of Physics and hoped that it would make new achievements in the process of building a "Double First-Class" university. Liu Yu, Secretary of the School of Physics, expressed gratitude to President Yang Dan and other leaders for their long-term care and support for the school of physics. This visit to the school for investigation and guidance was an opportunity for the school to evaluate its own development and forge ahead. The school will further implement the relevant policies and make further plans, and solve various issues, and implement them as soon as possible to promote the school's new and better development. Leaders from the Institute of Scientific and Technological Development, the Office of Strategy and Discipline, the Talent Office, the Graduate School, the Academic Affairs Office, and the Party and Government Office participated in the research.
